Documentary: Visit Milwaukee

This summer I interned with Visit Milwaukee in their Creative services department.  I did a bunch of design work, but more excitingly, photography! I photographed a ton of Milwaukee events, including River Rhythms, State Fair, Irish Fest, German Fest, Brady Street Fest, and the Public Market!
Here are some of my favorites:

Misc. Locket

Any of you that know me know the story to this necklace.
I bought this locket in Dubuque Iowa many years ago. Inside is a photo of two sisters, each wearing a locket. I have been searching for the match to this locket for six years, and now I'm finally bringing it to the internet!

Here are photos of the locket, and a closeup of the photo inside. I can't take the photo out of the locket becaus
e the ring is stuck, and it's difficult to see the detail of both lockets through the plastic insert. I'm fairly sure I have the one on the right, and maybe the one on the left is a star as well?

I'm planning on sharing this on tumblr, pinterest, and any other site I can. If you know anyone interested in lockets or antique stores, pass this on to help me find the sister locket!

52: Week 46

I had three shoots scheduled for this week, and all three of them got canceled.  This is a part of side mixed media project that I have been working on that uses digital scans printed onto paper material such as envelopes and newspaper pages.  I know it isn't technically a photograph, but since the purpose of this project is to force myself into new creative directions, I decided this would work for this week.

This is directly out of the scanner, I'm not sure how it happened.

Photo Journalism: Meteor Shower

The Perseids Meteor Shower took place this past Sunday and Monday, offering an unique photo opportunity.  I will admit, that although I like to pretend I am a photo journalist, this meteor shower kicked my butt.  Not a single meteor is visible on a single photo!  I guess I just had bad aim.

Jamie, thanks for staying up with me all night to watch the meteor shower (and supplying the location and smores and stuff...)  I haven't slept in 36 hours, and it was totally worth it.

My shutter was held down by a hair band and a tape dispenser, so don't ask about my shutter speed.

Mis. Tom and Loni

This odd couple is Loni Carroll, and Tom the Art Department Skeleton.  Loni has lived in the photo room for as long as I've been attending Carroll.  Tom hides in the drawing room prop closet, and only gets to come out on on occasion.  Today, Tom was lonely, so he came out to play with Loni and I in the studio.

Here is my ghetto rigging to get the red colored lighting

There is no magic, Tom was really holding Loni.

Misc: Book Cover

Yesterday, not only did I do one of my most in depth photo shoots, but also one of my most crazy!  Originally, I had a total of 5 male models coming to shoot; only 2 showed up!  Luckily, my 2 amazing models Andrew and Ben (members of my favorite Carroll Fraternity, Delta Rho) found me replacements, and even some extras!  Also, a big thank you to Brandon and Katelynn, you guys helped immensely by staying late and helping with costumes!

So what is going on?  This is my first ever book cover.  I was approached by a friend with the hopes of publishing her first work, a piece of non fiction titled: It was Enchanting to Meet You.   The idea: a girl with a line of her ex boyfriends standing behind her.  In order, front to back: blood donor, baseball player, marine, doctor, race car driver, cowboy.  With any luck, you'll be able to find this book in stores!

Misc: This week

My boyfriend has been encouraging me to do more photo journalism, so I decided to bring my camera around with me this past week. I found that there is a lot more in life to photograph than I had anticipated.

I caught the end of the makeup class and got this picture of my friend Kayla.
Here is my friend Montana in her Mona Lisa makeup

I helped my friend John with a photography project mimicing Joel Grimes lighting style.

John's test picture of me!
Here is the final photo of me for John's project. I took tae kwon do for about 5 years and attained a second degree black belt. Editing done by yours truly.

Epic Car Shoot

A couple weeks ago my boyfriend bought a Saturn Ion Redline. Due to his excitement, and the fact that I've had this idea for over year, we finally decided to execute this shoot using his new car.

Here is the process of this photo:

I made an HDR photo of his car, with an on camera flash and a flash off on camera left. From there, we light painted around the car using a laser pointer and a 30 second exposure. We then found a suitable location to place the car, and again using a 30 second exposure, caught the trails of headlights on passing cars. After placing the car and light painting into the new location in photoshop, I replaced the hood and windshield with a previously taken photo of the car to remove the reflection of the bridge in the original location. I then added the headlight stream, edited the wheels to appear to be spinning, added the reflection of street lights on the car, and added a motion blur to a duplicated layer of the light painting.

I'm really happy with how this turned out. This was probably my most drawn out project, with two hours of shooting time, and approximately 12 hours of editing. I feel it was totally worth it, and I owe a big thank you to my boyfriend for helping me accomplish it. Thanks :)
